"Put easy-to-access software in the hands of the people" - An Interview With Thore Ipsen, CEO of Marionette Mocap

T. Thore Ipsen, CEO of Marionette Mocap

While getting to know more of my LinkedIn neighbors, I had the wonderful opportunity to chat with T. Thore Ipsen the CEO of Marionette Mocap!

From his first experience with VR being in a 90's race car simulator to the first oculus to now being the founder of the AI motion capture software Marionette XR, Thore sees potential in the future of creative animation by putting the power in the hands of the people!

⭐Here are just a few of the questions that he graciously took time to answer⭐

What brings you inspiration?

"Being able to empower other people to tell stories." Thore comes from a long history of telling stories himself! With almost 2 decades of direct experience in Film, Animation, and Motion Capture, his current goal is to give others the power to experience the same.

How would you like others to use your software?

He suggested that indie game developers who are not financially in a position to tell the kind of animated story that they want, can now do so with the help of Marionette. And if you are not familiar with mocap, the typical suit setup, accessories, and software will run you anywhere from $2,000 USD - $20,000 USD. Not feasible for an indie creator. However having a tool like Marionette can add more efficiency and even create more jobs with the savings gained.

What would you like to see changed in the next 5-10 years?

"What I hope is that we're going towards a future where there's less big corporations and more smaller companies..[that] can create and...get exposure while still making a living."

He also mentioned that while the 12 principles of animation have been a staple since 1981, in regards to animation reference videos it would be interesting "if we can get new ways of creating. Not just making things faster but also can we make it more fun?" Since "fun" can be a huge inspiration towards creativity I completely agree!

Thore concluded with the fact that Marionette runs on the users own hardware so no cloud is needed meaning data security and unlimited render on a flat rate. They haven't launched yet but they invite people to sign up for their free pilot program. If you would like to see a real time preview of the software see below!

I had a wonderful time speaking with Thore and one of the beliefs he holds that really resonated with me is this: Making a product accessible to the majority without the burden of cost will allow creativity to flourish and stories to be told that would otherwise not be possible.

It's great to meet others that have similar drives for creativity and imagination. I hope that I get to meet more of you!
